Susan Hippe

Susan Hippe was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1966. While working as a ballet dancer an injury gave Susan the opportunity to pursue a career in art. In 1999 she completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Roehampton Institute, University of Surrey.  The degree piece is currently on display at the Charring Cross Hospital in London.

Since graduating she has been producing and exhibiting frequently.  She has had several solo exhibitions and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in many different countries including France, Spain and The United States.

Susan says: “Coming from the theatre, from dance, the consistent theme in my work is my interest in movement, which I translate on a visual pictorial level. The movement of a body, voice or melody transgresses into a sweeping mass of lines capturing the energy and eroticism of the moving figure.”

“I want to create dynamic images which reflects my energy, within the physical process of making, and which energise the viewer whatever the theme and mood of the picture.”

Susan likes to combine a vigorous working process with humour, exuberance and eccentricity.

Susan's work forms an integral part of many significant international collections.
