Born in 1962 in London, Marcel studied drawing and painting from an early age. Following Camberwell Art School, he undertook a long apprenticeship to become a restorer, graduating in 1986. He has been exhibiting extensively since 1987, while continuing his restoration work.
Marcel is known particularly for his images of the South of France, Greece, Venice and Andalusia which, from very early on in his painting career, have attracted strong support.
Gatteaux’s love of the hot vibrant landscape of the Mediterranean region follows a tradition started by the early impressionists. It is his ability to recreate the colour and heat of Southern Europe, together with a clear understanding of balance and composition, that has led to a wide and enthusiastic following.
Marcel's paintings form an integral part of many significant international collections.
