Domenico Mazzilli

Domenico Mazzilli

Domenico Mazzilli was born in 1945 at Corato (Italy), graduating at the Academy of Art in Florence with a first class honours degree in sculpture. He went on to teach sculpture as Art tutor in High School (“Liceo Artistico G. De Nittis” Bari) in Italy, while working as a freelance artist.

His paintings inspired by Picasso, Matisse and Chagal present a variety of styles – from religious to semi-realistic and more abstract and experimental pieces.

Domenico has exhibited in Rome, Turin and Florence.
His sculptures are on permanent display in Sicily and others in southern Italy; his smaller pieces (sculpture and paintings) are in private collections.

He has also participated in the International Conference on Sculpture in the Italian Culture Institute in Dublin (Ireland), the International Conference of Landscape and Sculpture in Manchester (UK) or the Expo Art in New York (USA).

Now retired from teaching, based in rural and charming Puglia, he often travels to the UK with his wife Addolorata, herself a freelance journalist and writer, where his three daughters – a playwright, a contemporary dancer and archaeology student – live and work.

Domenico’s work is a passionate and dramatic depiction of universal human conflicts – the relationship between men and women, sons/daughters etc. – using an artistic language that transcends national and cultural boundaries.

Without ever forgetting his origin and with the help of his daughters, Domenico is reaching out to new audiences far away from his hometown.

Domenico's work forms an integral part of many significant international collections.
